Adam Wallenta brings the world of comic book and graphic novel creation to life through high-energy, interactive school visits and workshops. With a focus on literacy, creativity, and the power of visual storytelling, these presentations inspire students to find their own voices and start their own creative journeys.
Inside Adam's Featured Presentations
• A visual presentation that shows Adam’s journey to becoming an award-winning author and illustrator, starting with his early beginnings as an artist when he was 5 years old. A look at the various art styles Adam has worked in over his career, the tools he uses and how he uses everyday items like toy dinosaurs, Matchbox cars, action figures and photos of family and friends to help him draw.
• How are comic books and graphic novels made? Adam will discuss the process from the initial idea and where inspiration comes from and how to recognize it to creating original characters, drawing storyboards, penciling, inking, coloring, lettering, designing and even editing books before they go to the printer and are on the shelves ready to read.
• Adam will conduct a drawing lesson that students of all abilities can follow along with so they can learn how he draws his character, Punk Taco, and together they will create an original character of their own.
• Adam always takes time to answer questions from students and teachers. It’s often helpful to have questions ready beforehand, but he is always happy to discuss art, writing, and books with kids—and sign autographs for them.
